  • Date Night Dance Class

    Grab your sweetheart and add a little twist & flare to any night out. Pump it up with moves of the Swing and slow it down with moves of the Rumba. This is a couples dance class and registration covers both you and your partner.
  • Driver Ed Permit Knowledge Test

    This driver permit test is ONLY open to students who have taken their driver education course through Brainerd Community Education. The test will be administered on sight and online at Brainerd High School in room B112. Upon registering, you will be placed on a waiting list until we verify your completion of OUR Community Education Driver Education class and all of the requirements. Once verified, you will be moved in to the class, and charged $10. PLEASE NOTE: All students MUST BRING TO CLASS WITH THEM, their BLUE CARD, as well as their social security number.
  • Driver Education-Youth

    Offered throughout the school year and summer by Brainerd Public Schools Community Education Taught by college-trained Department of Education certified instructors. Let our Brainerd teachers help you meet the State Driver Education requirements! To complete the classroom portion of the program DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, students will meet three times a week; Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for three hours each day. Students registered for one of our SUMMER SESSIONS will meet five times a week; Monday through Friday for three hours each day. Attendance each day is mandatory to gain the 30 hours of classroom training which is required by state law! Students must be 14 years old and provide proper identification specified in the Minnesota Driver’s Manual. The next four sessions will be on the simulator. All simulator classes are 2 hours. *Missed simulation classes result in the need for extra driving time to meet state requirements. If one simulator class is missed, the student must pay for 1/2 hour of extra on-street driving at the cost of $30 in order to meet the requirements. **Students will be allowed to register for behind the wheel dates at the end of simulation or drive at a later date. After completing 30 hours of classroom, and eight hours of simulation, four hours of behind the wheel are required. The behind the wheel dates are made by appointment (an instructor will call). Students will drive four hours with a licensed instructor. These will be scheduled usually two times, for two hours each time. Most people will be done driving 3-6 weeks after simulation unless they choose to wait. Students will complete the entire course within one year of their first classroom session. A $60 fee will be assessed to those waiting longer than a year. Anyone waiting 18 months or longer will pay $90 and $5 per month thereafter. Students who cancel or wish to move to another section with less than seven business days notice, prior to the class start date will forfeit $120 of their tuition. If a student withdraws from the program after beginning classroom they will forfeit $120 of their tuition. If a student withdraws from the program after beginning simulation, $210 will be forfeited. To ensure that this driver's education program is safe and appropriate, please indicate on the registration form whether the student has any special needs or requires any accommodations to be successful in this program. Class size is limited, so register early! Note Policy Change! In order to be reimbursed for canceling a class or to be moved to another section, you must notify the Community Education office at least seven business days prior to the start of class. Students who don't show up for scheduled behind the wheel driving appointments will be charged $37. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the driving is scheduled. Any remaining balance or additional charges incurred after the first date of the class must be paid by cash or credit card; no checks will be accepted. We offer a 90 minute parent course free of charge if your child is enrolled in our Driver Education program. This parent class is for the "Primary Driving Supervisor". Click here for parent class registration. If your student is NOT enrolled in our Driver Education program - the cost of the class is $25. This agreement/contract constitutes an agreement/contract between the program and the student/parent and no verbal statements or promises will be recognized.

    Long before spinning wheels were used, people carried their portable drop spindle with them and spun fleece into yarn. This simple but practical device is still used today, Join us for a class on learning about and trying the drop spindle. If you are interested in purchasing a drop spindle, they will be available for sale after class. All supplies are included in the class fee.

You will be free to create your own design and in the process learn glass cutting techniques and the use of proper adhesive and grouting.     Get ready for the next dance by learning some of the favorite line dances played by your DJ like Cupid Shuffle, Cha Cha Slide, Copperhead Road and others. Registration required. Participants must be accompanied during the Community Education activity or class, by a caregiver or group home staff. IF a caregiver plans to participate, they must register as well.     Journaling with Julie Jo

    Journaling with Julie Jo takes participants on writing adventures using a variety of prompts to spark creativity. Through "The World Around You," "Minnesota Magic," "Self Awareness," and more, participants will use prompts to start their own daily journal. Several journaling styles will be presented, so participants can choose their favorite. Classes are for writers of all levels. Pens and journals will be provided. Sharing of writing is not a requirement of this class.
  • Kickbox2-Self Defense for Women

    This summer, enjoy nights out with your closest friends as you discover your own inner lion, merging intro to fitness kickboxing with practical self-defense techniques found in American Kenpo. Techniques learned include proper footwork to maintain distance, rhythm and timing while combining jab/crosses and kicks. Kicking sets will include round, hook, side, tornado, tsunami and more! Kenpo techniques teach women to use their body mass over muscle to defend themselves, encouraging a rebuilt mindset that bolsters willpower to accomplish anything on and off the karate mat! Hand wraps and pads provided in class with t-shirt and snack box. Certificate and white belt provided at the completion of the 4th class.

    Lacrosse for Boys Gr 6-8

    The mission of this program is to foster, promote and perpetuate the game of lacrosse. There will be 18 practices and 5 in-house games, and possibly 1 scrimmage against Big Lake's middle school program. Helmets are provided, but participants are responsible for purchasing the rest of the protective gear which includes; shoulder pads (NOCSAE approved), elbow pad & gloves. Also a complete lacrosse stick (short, long pole, goalie - based on age/position), cleats/sneakers and mouth guard. Registration closes April 19th.
