  • 55+ - Driver Improvement Program - Refresher Course - NEW!

    **PLEASE NOTE: The date for session #2 has CHANGED FROM MAY 1st to APRIL 22nd** The Driver Improvement course is a state approved accident prevention/insurance discount course that is open to the public; pre-registration is required. A MN Highway Safety & Research Center certified instructor teaches this class. By utilizing the most up-to-date research in the field, participants will be provided the latest information in regards to driver and traffic safety, new laws and vehicle technology. This class has something for everyone! Persons age 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a 10% discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota law. First time participants must complete the initial eight hours of training and a four-hour refresher class every three years to maintain the 10% discount.

    Have you heard about the latest new app called TikTok? Learn how it's used and how parents can also help their kids stay safe while on it. You'll leave the class with helpful action items with your family, to help gain a better understanding on what to do/what not to do within the app. The class will help set up a healthy foundation for technology habits your family members can use for the rest of their life whether in school or in their professional careers.

    Arts & Craft Festivals

    Annual Arts & Craft Festivals ALL applications are sent to a waitlist prior to approval to be reviewed by our show coordinator. Applicants will hear back about their applications with 5-10 days after submitting an application. Please note that the application fee will process instantly once the application has been approved. Full Categories: Bath & Body, Sublimation, Accessories/Jewelry, Sewing, Crochet Entry Fee: Application fees are non-refundable once accepted. Vendors will receive an email confirmation of show acceptance. If an application fee cannot be processed at that time, you will be notified via phone call or email to complete the application fee. Failure to pay the application fee will result in removal from the show. Rental Fee: Please review rental spaces below. All spaces include approx. 4' of depth, with the exception of the 12'x12' spaces. Number of Exhibits Exhibitors will be placed in the cafeteria, commons area, and hallways of the high school. We reserve the right to limit the number of exhibitors in a category (ie: photography, painting, sewing, etc.) to ensure a variety of handmade products. Please indicate the category of your products when filling out the registration form. *Exhibition placement will depend upon when the registration was submitted and at the coordinator's discretion. Please turn in your registration promptly as shows may fill quickly and before the deadline. Marketing of Event The shows are marketed through Brainerd Community Education, the Brainerd Dispatch, local radio stations, and through flyers at area schools and businesses. Vendors are encouraged to take part in promoting the event through flyers, word of mouth, social media, clubs, etc. Show flyers will be sent out with your space assignment number at least one week prior to the event. Handmade/Crafted Items Only Items must be handmade or handcrafted by you or a family member and must not include items or articles made from commercial kits or items purchased for resale. Any food vendors (jellies, jams, nuts, etc) must show proof of a state license with their registration. Vendors violating this rule will be asked to leave and will not be allowed in future shows. Tables & Chairs Two chairs are provided at each space for no additional cost. Table rentals are available at $5/table for either a 6 ft. or 8 ft. table and are provided on a limited first come, first serve basis. Tables should be covered. Vendors are allowed to bring their own tables or displays as long as they do not exceed the allotted space. Please request additional space on your registration form for any extra equipment or space such as signs, easels, etc. Set-Up & Hours Vendors can start setting up their spaces Saturday morning at 6:30 AM. All tables must be completely set up by 8:45 AM. Dependent on district activities, Friday night set up may be possible. Please check your email one week prior to the event about set up information. Once you have arrived to the space for set up, check the flyers and table numbers to find your location.The show coordinator will be there to assist anyone with questions and finding their locations. Once tables have been set up, you will be responsible for your own items. Carts are not provided. The general public is not allowed into the space until 9:00 AM. Please do not bring friends of family through the event beforehand as this time is meant for vendor set up only. Permits & Licenses All permits and licenses required by the State of MN or the Federal Government are the sole responsibility of the vendors. According to state law, you must have a sales tax number and collect 7.875% MN sales tax; this includes a one-half of one percent sales and use tax for the city of Brainerd and one-half of one percent sales tax for Crow Wing County. A copy of your sales tax certificate or sales tax letter must be included with your application for each festival or your application will be rejected. Refreshments & Admissions A refreshment and/or concessions are TBD. There is no admission charge to the public. District Building Info & Events: All district policies & regulations are followed at events houses in district buildings. All items sold at the event must be appropriate and adhere to district policies. Please keep in mind that other events may be going on in the High School at the same time as the craft show (sporting events, community education classes, meetings, etc.).     Long before spinning wheels were used, people carried their portable drop spindle with them and spun fleece into yarn. This simple but practical device is still used today, Join us for a class on learning about and trying the drop spindle. If you are interested in purchasing a drop spindle, they will be available for sale after class. All supplies are included in the class fee.

You will be free to create your own design and in the process learn glass cutting techniques and the use of proper adhesive and grouting.     Journaling with Julie Jo

    Journaling with Julie Jo takes participants on writing adventures using a variety of prompts to spark creativity. Through "The World Around You," "Minnesota Magic," "Self Awareness," and more, participants will use prompts to start their own daily journal. Several journaling styles will be presented, so participants can choose their favorite. Classes are for writers of all levels. Pens and journals will be provided. Sharing of writing is not a requirement of this class.
  • Kickbox2-Self Defense for Women

    This summer, enjoy nights out with your closest friends as you discover your own inner lion, merging intro to fitness kickboxing with practical self-defense techniques found in American Kenpo. Techniques learned include proper footwork to maintain distance, rhythm and timing while combining jab/crosses and kicks. Kicking sets will include round, hook, side, tornado, tsunami and more! Kenpo techniques teach women to use their body mass over muscle to defend themselves, encouraging a rebuilt mindset that bolsters willpower to accomplish anything on and off the karate mat! Hand wraps and pads provided in class with t-shirt and snack box. Certificate and white belt provided at the completion of the 4th class.

  • Realistic Watercolor Flowers: Intermediate/Advanced

    This 2-hour class is most suitable for watercolor painters with prior experience who have some confidence in their color mixing and water control. We will learn some of the basics for planning out your approach to a realistic watercolor painting, practice color mixing and learn a glazing technique to gradually build color and shadow. A detailed sketch will be provided for each participant to work from, as a focus of this class is painting, not drawing. Ages 16+

We'll talk about the tricks and techniques to bring vegetable seedlings successfully through the first few weeks of growth, setting the stage for a healthy garden and an abundant harvest. With a hands on class at a working vegetable farm, you can see firsthand how to set up a seedling nursery that will help you achieve your best garden.
  • Trusts and Generational Estate Planning: Why You Can't Always Trust Your Trust

    The trust is a very popular component and tool to be used in our estate planning. However, there is a variety of vastly different trust options to be used and the question arises: "Am I using the right trust for my needs and goals?" Often used trusts include: Living Trusts, Testamentary Trusts and Irrevocable Trusts. Each serves a different purpose; each has a different result. One common problem that often needs addressing is the over-utilization of the Living Trust for goals or problems that it does not resolve. For example, "Does my living trust protect my assets against Medicaid and the nursing home? The answer is probably not. The Irrevocable Trust and the Testamentary Trust each have their strengths and weaknesses as well. We will clearly define the strengths and weaknesses of these different types of trusts and when to use them.
  • Unlocking Investment Insights: Exploring Historical Performance and Future Probabilities with R for Windows

    This class introduces methods that can aid investment decisions. The class uses the open-source (free) statistical software R and its interface companion, R Studio to gather and help analyze data. This state of the art software tandem is widely used in education and finance. The class introduces generally accepted methods of analysis and illustrations including how artificial intelligence can help. You'll benefit most from the class if you are an investor experienced with Windows and recognize terms like "bell curve" and "standard deviation." The class does not require statistical or programming experience, and it will not address the academic rabbit holes traditional statistics and programming courses impose. After the class, you will be able to describe, compare and forecast investment returns and risk using R. A few days before the class the instructor will send links to download the open-source software and give a basic programming task to make sure the software is ready to go when the class starts.
