California Sushi Roll Extravaganza!EnrichmentLearn the skill of creating delicious seasoned sushi rice, spicy mayo, and how to stuff, wrap/shape the rolls with wonderful filling ingredients. One of these fillings is a "crab" salad that will be created using crab sticks. If children are participating, adult supervision is required. Ingredient/supplies in case participants wish to order or shop early for some ingredients: Sushi rice, sushi nori / seaweed sheets, toasted sesame oil, (Japanese) rice vinegar. Additional ingredients will be listed in the information packet that will be received 1 week before class. Bamboo sushi rolling mat can be helpful but not necessary.Winter/Spring 2023

Charitable Planning Tools for Your LegacyEnrichmentIn 2018 the Individual and Married Standard Deduction amounts essentially doubled to $12,000 and $24,000. For many families this eliminated the "tax-incentive" to charitable giving. In this class we will become familiar with charitable legacy tools such as: Charitable Lead Trusts, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Private Foundations, Donor Advised Funds and Life Insurance gifting. We will answer questions like: How do I get the next generations involved? Which provides tax relief now? Which gives me the most control? Focaccia, Stromboli & Calzones! Oh MY!EnrichmentLearn how to make your own homemade focaccia bread, a wonderful rolled pizza called a Stromboli and stuffed pizzas known as Calzones, with homemade pizza dough! Participants will receive an ingredient list and station prep packet in a PDF format one week before class to allow time for shopping and prep. If children are participating, adult supervision is required. Equipment needs: A 9x13 non-stick baking pan or a larger sheet pan will be needed for the focaccia bread. Additional sheet pans will be needed for the Stromboli and the Calzones. A stand mixer is highly recommended in order to be able to make both doughs during the class.Winter/Spring 2023

The class uses the open-source (free) R statistical software and its interface companion, R Studio; both are widely used in education and finance. Students who will benefit most are independent investors experienced with Windows who recognize terms like "bell curve" and "standard deviation," but the class does not require programming experience and will not address the gnarly academic rabbit holes traditional statistics and programming classes impose. After taking the class, students will be able to describe, compare and forecast investment returns and risk using R.
