Description:
If your child is interested in joining band, they will go through a two step process before school starts in 6th grade. Please sign up for Beginning Band Group Start Up Lessons as described in part 2 (below).
Part 1: Band Screening
All interested students will complete a "band screening" at a scheduled time between March 18 and May 23. Parents attend the band screening with their child to understand the instrument selection process and to get more information on instrument rentals and information about our two day Beginning Band Group Start Up Lessons as described in part 2 (below). An email will be sent to all parents in March to schedule a band screening time.
Part 2: Beginning Band Group Start Up Lessons
Students will attend the Beginning Band Group Start Up Lessons for 2 days on either August 20/21 or Aug 28/29 to learn the basics of how to start playing their new band instrument. We are offering the same lessons over 2 different weeks to accommodate family schedules. Please choose one of the two day sessions.
The startup lessons allow the instructors to cover all of the initial information and skills that are needed when school starts such as; how to put their instrument together, produce the first sound on the instrument, how to read music and learn to play the first five notes in their beginning band book. Each day's lesson is one-and-a-half hours with other students who play the same instrument.
