  • Art - Cosmic Geodes and Painting the Universe Gr 3-7

    Come join us in a cosmic journey where outer space and vibrant geodes come together on canvas. Where your imagination blends science and art to create masterpieces! Together we will create a glow in the dark space, painting on black canvas, watercolor collage geode, color mapping watercolor painting, a miniature acrylic painting of northern lights and a chalk nebulas.
  • Art - Culinary Creations Gr 3-7

    Let's have some creative fun with food! We will start with crafting felt pop tarts, drawing some silly sandwiches, gluing sparkly cupcakes and finally painting an ice cream cone. To top it all off we will make some edible art too. All supplies included. If you sign your child up for a morning and afternoon art camp on the same day, our instructor will provide supervision between noon and 1pm when the next camp starts. You must bring your own cold lunch; no food or beverage will be provided. In the event you sign your child up for both a morning and afternoon class on the same day, and either the morning or afternoon class is cancelled, there will be NO supervision offered for the lunch hour on that day (from noon - 1pm).
  • Art - Fantastical Fire Breathing Dragons Gr 3-7

    This class is all about the mythological dragon! We will be creating a pastel dragon eye as well as a 3-D dragon's eye, a Chinese handprint dragon puppet, a dragon mask and a hatching dragon egg.     Art - Retro Art Gr 3-7

    Groovy 70’s art is back! Join us in creating cool string art, cute pompom animals, foil painting retro owls,black glue mushrooms and groovy sand art. We will play some retro games too!   • Babysitting 101 - Gr 5-8

    This course is best suited for 10-13 year olds interested in learning the current practices of caring for young children and how to manage their babysitting business. Students will learn safety and injury prevention, first aid basics, feeding and caring for infants and how to handle behavior problems. Students receive a reference book, handouts, babysitting bag and first aid kit. Students will need to bring a snack, bag lunch and water bottle.     Beginning Band Start-Up Lessons 6th Grade

    Description: If your child is interested in joining band, they will go through a two step process before school starts in 6th grade. Please sign up for Beginning Band Group Start Up Lessons as described in part 2 (below). Part 1: Band Screening All interested students will complete a "band screening" at a scheduled time between March 18 and May 23. Parents attend the band screening with their child to understand the instrument selection process and to get more information on instrument rentals and information about our two day Beginning Band Group Start Up Lessons as described in part 2 (below). An email will be sent to all parents in March to schedule a band screening time. Part 2: Beginning Band Group Start Up Lessons Students will attend the Beginning Band Group Start Up Lessons for 2 days on either August 20/21 or Aug 28/29 to learn the basics of how to start playing their new band instrument. We are offering the same lessons over 2 different weeks to accommodate family schedules. Please choose one of the two day sessions. The startup lessons allow the instructors to cover all of the initial information and skills that are needed when school starts such as; how to put their instrument together, produce the first sound on the instrument, how to read music and learn to play the first five notes in their beginning band book. Each day's lesson is one-and-a-half hours with other students who play the same instrument. CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS: Option #1 - Aug 20/21 (Wed &Thurs) Students attend BOTH days: 8-9:30am - percussion & saxophone 9:45-11:15am - clarinet & trumpet 11:45-1:15pm - flute & trombone/baritone Option #2 - Aug 28/29 (Thurs & Fri) Students attend BOTH days (Please note times are different each day to accommodate teacher workshop schedules) Thursday, Aug 28th: 12:30-2pm - percussion & saxophone 2:15-3:45pm - clarinet & trumpet 4:00-5:30pm - flute & trombone/baritone Friday, Aug 29th: 8-9:30am - percussion & saxophone 9:45-11:15am - clarinet & trumpet 11:45-1:15pm - flute & trombone/baritone
  • Driver Ed Permit Knowledge Test

    This driver permit test is ONLY open to students who have taken their driver education course through Brainerd Community Education. The test will be administered on sight and online at Brainerd High School in room B112. Upon registering, we will verify your completion of OUR Community Education Driver Education class and all of the requirements. PLEASE NOTE: All students MUST BRING TO CLASS WITH THEM, their BLUE CARD, as well as their social security number.
  • Driver Education- ONLINE

    Brainerd Community Education has partnered with A+ Driving School to offer an online Driver's Education course. This is a fully online class platform designed for Minnesota students. Our industry-leading program utilizes our proven teaching methods, which will keep the student engaged throughout the learning process. Key Benefits are: – Start classes anytime and take at your own pace up to 3 hours per day – Classes are available on demand! – Entertaining “Live” classroom setting – Free Study Guide for all students – Closed Captioning options – “Hands On” activities to reinforce information and get parents involved – 24/7 Instructor Support – Students have 3 months to complete the online classroom program – Made specifically for MINNESOTA STUDENTS by Minnesota Driving Instructors! – The Minnesota Department of Public Safety fully approves this program. 1. Students must be 14 years old and provide proper identification specified in the Minnesota Driver’s Manual. 2. Students will also need to complete 8 hours of simulator training. This is in-person training. The student must complete 4 classes, each being 2 hours long. An instructor will contact you with dates and times available for the simulator. A missed simulator session will result in an extra ½ hour of behind-the-wheel driving at the cost of $30 to meet state requirements. 3. After that, students will then be required to complete 4 hours of behind-the-wheel training. Students will need to have a valid Minnesota Permit and have completed the 8 hours of simulator training before they sign up for behind-the-wheel. To schedule behind-the-wheel training, you will need to contact the program coordinator or Community Education. 4. Students will need to complete the classroom portion of Driver's Education within 3 months of starting the classroom. If they are unable to complete the course in 3 months, they will be dropped from the program and they will forfeit $125 of their tuition. 5. Students will need to complete the entire course, classroom, simulation, and behind-the-wheel within one year after beginning the classroom portion of the program. A $65 fee will be assessed for those waiting longer than a year. Note: There is an additional $10 registration fee for this online course. Once you are registered, you will receive an email from our program coordinator on the MONDAY FOLLOWING YOUR REGISTRATION, with the log-in information for the online classroom portion. You will need a credit card to pay this fee. Students who don't show up for scheduled behind-the-wheel driving appointments will be charged $40. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the driving is scheduled. Any remaining balance or additional charges incurred after the first date of the class must be paid by cash or credit card; no checks will be accepted. To ensure that this driver's education program is safe and appropriate, please indicate on the registration form whether the student has any special needs or requires any accommodations to be successful in this program. We offer a 90-minute parent course free of charge if your child is enrolled in our Driver Education program. This parent class is for the "Primary Driving Supervisor". Click here for parent class registration. If your student is NOT enrolled in our Driver Education program, the cost of the class is $25. This agreement/contract constitutes an agreement/contract between the program and the student/parent and no verbal statements or promises will be recognized.

    Offered throughout the school year and summer by Brainerd Public Schools Community Education (TO REGISTER FOR THE ONLINE DRIVER ED CLASS - CLICK HERE!) Taught by college-trained Department of Education certified instructors. Let our Brainerd teachers help you meet the State Driver Education requirements! To complete the classroom portion of the program DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, students will meet three times a week; Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for three hours each day. Students registered for one of our SUMMER SESSIONS will meet five times a week; Monday through Friday for three hours each day. Attendance each day is mandatory to gain the 30 hours of classroom training which is required by state law! Students must be 14 years old and provide proper identification specified in the Minnesota Driver’s Manual. The next four sessions will be on the simulator. All simulator classes are 2 hours. *Missed simulation classes result in the need for extra driving time to meet state requirements. If one simulator class is missed, the student must pay for 1/2 hour of extra on-street driving at the cost of $30 in order to meet the requirements. **Students will be allowed to register for behind the wheel dates at the end of simulation or drive at a later date. After completing 30 hours of classroom, and eight hours of simulation, four hours of behind the wheel are required. The behind the wheel dates are made by appointment (an instructor will call). Students will drive four hours with a licensed instructor. These will be scheduled usually two times, for two hours each time. Most people will be done driving 3-6 weeks after simulation unless they choose to wait. Students will complete the entire course within one year of their first classroom session. A $65 fee will be assessed to those waiting longer than a year. Anyone waiting 18 months or longer will pay $90 and $5 per month thereafter. Students who cancel or wish to move to another section with less than seven business days notice, prior to the class start date will forfeit $125 of their tuition. If a student withdraws from the program after beginning classroom they will forfeit $125 of their tuition. If a student withdraws from the program after beginning simulation, $225 will be forfeited. To ensure that this driver's education program is safe and appropriate, please indicate on the registration form whether the student has any special needs or requires any accommodations to be successful in this program.   • Explore Music! Gr 1-5

    Kids in the Lakes Area will not want to miss this week long day camp packed with activities and creativity! Participants will move, dance, sing and play instruments every day and exercise their creative muscles through guided improvisation. Surrounding the week, participants will be encouraged to attend several family-friendly performances by the Lakes Area Music Festival at the Gichi-ziibi Center concert hall at Brainerd High School.     Join us for two full days of gymnastics skills and fun to wrap up the Summer! Students must have participated in a high school team class, Elites class, or Twisters/Pre-Team class. There will be a one hour lunch break at Noon.
